How to Search Messages on Instagram

Have you ever noticed that you always feel more comfortable with people you’ve known for years than with people you’ve known recently? What you may not have guessed is that your comfort here stems from the transparency that people have achieved over the years, having countless honest and intimate conversations about anything under the sun.

Because of that relationship, it’s quite understandable how much value conversations have for humans. Conversations can bring people closer to each other and also drive them apart. On the one hand, it can heal, and on the other hand, it can also leave countless scars. Some conversations are so special that we have them by heart even after years of taking place. However, when these conversations take place through messages, how can you keep track of them?

In our blog today, we are going to talk about being able to find a particular message from the DM section of Instagram. If you have faced such a problem before, stay with us to find your solution.

How to search for messages on Instagram

Since we already declared the search bar in the DM section as an invalid option, we’ll tell you about other ways you can search for messages on Instagram. The easiest way to do this is to use your web browser, so we’ll talk about that in the next section.

Another alternative to do so is to download all your information from Instagram and then look for this message in the report sent by them. But what does it mean to download your information from Instagram?

Well, in one of the most recent Instagram updates, the platform implemented a data download feature that was previously launched on Facebook. With this feature, you can download all your data from the platform, including your profile information, followers/followers list, messages, posts, stories, highlights, comments, likes, etc.

If you have never done such a thing in the past, let us guide you through the process:

Step 1 – Navigate to the Instagram icon on your smartphone menu grid and tap on it to launch the app on your device.

Step 2: Once you’ve opened the app and logged in to your account, you’ll find yourself on the Home tab where you can navigate through your newsfeed.

Here, navigate your profile picture thumbnail icon towards the bottom right corner of the screen and tap on it when you find it.

Step 3: By doing so, you will be taken to your Profile tab. Here, in the top right corner of the screen, right next to the Create button, you will see a hamburger icon; play it

Step 4: As soon as you do, a menu will slide up on your screen, with multiple actionable options laid out on it, such as Settings, Archive, and Saved.

The second option on this list would be Your Activity with a clock-like icon drawn next to it. Tap this option.

Step 5: Doing so will take you to the Your Activity tab, where you can find all sorts of information about what you do on the platform, including time spent, interactions, links you’ve visited, etc.

Step 6 – If you scroll to the bottom of this tab, you will find this option at the bottom: Download your information.

Tap this option to go to the Download your data tab.

Step 7 – On the Download Your Data tab, you will be prompted to enter your email address (preferably the one already registered with Instagram). It is to this email address that your data will be sent.

Once you’ve entered the address, tap the blue Request Download button at the bottom.

Step 8: Upon doing so, you will be prompted to enter your account password for security reasons. Once you enter your password in the empty field provided, tap on the Next button on your top right side.

If the password you entered is correct, your request will be processed successfully. Instagram will also report how it can take them up to 48 hours to prepare their report. Tap the Done button at the bottom of this tab to return to your account.
